For those of us that missed the meeting on December 16th:
There was a short debate among three groups. Each group picked a world leader they admired.
The choices were:
Mother Teresa
Winston Churchill
Martin Luther King Jr.
Here is the conundrum:
If these three individuals are in a hot air balloon that is about to crash, and if one jumped off the balloon, the other two would be saved, who should sacrifice their life for the benefit of the other two?
The groups were advocates for their chosen world leader. They had to prove why the world needed a leader like the one they had chosen more and why he should stay on the balloon based on what (s)he had done for the world with his leadership.
Needless to say, the ensuing debate was very interesting. Do we need a more morally driven humane leader? Do we need hardwired generals that can strategies on their feet - whether politically or economically? Do we need advocates for equality? Or do we just need an inspiration?
In the end Mother Teresa more or less volunteered to sacrifice.
As for the writing task:
Given the qualities of each (above mentioned) leader and Nelson Mandela, who do you think, among the four, is a greater leader from whom the world at large has gained and learned the most?
The deadline is 12 mid-night on the first Thursday after school starts. Please try to write at least one and half length of an A4.
The submissions must be emailed to either my (Nasim's) email or the Wordpecker email in a word processor (not pdf) file AS WELL AS be uploaded on your fictionpress account for every one else to read. I will forward your pieces to Mr. Sherman (who set the task and will give you feedback) .
Hope you have had a great start of the new year.
Happy Writing.
PS. If you weren't in the meeting on 16th, it's ok if you skip this task if you want (though it will be nice to give it a try). But if you did attend the meeting, please send me the writing ON TIME or else!!!!
