If you have visited the art exhibition this week, you might have noticed an album containing old letters from the last century and a series of journal extracts and cards from the 19th century just near the entrance. They belonged to Mr. Kingston's grandfather and great grandfather.
The thing with any object that has lived through so many years is the sense of mystery and wonder that I generally associate with the passing of time. You can just imagine them holding a pen over that paper - folding it, sending it. You might wonder about everything else that is not on the paper too - the circumstances surrounding the content of the letters, the emotions behind the words.
So here I've uploaded some of these letters (and you can go see the originals in the multiplus) for you to let your imagination run wild with. You can respond to them. You can make up a story about them. You could write follow up letters. Up to you.
The first is from Mr. Alvarez (Mr. Kingston's grandfather) to his fiancee Rosalie. (I'm putting up both a scanned and a photograph version - whichever turns out to be more comfortable to read.)
Hint: a reply to this letter would be fun!

The following letters are leave application requests for various reasons from Mr. Alvarez.
Since mocks are close this is probably the last task. But you are still welcome to upload any of your own writing and I'll be happy to put them up here on the blog or publish them on the school magazine.
Happy writing!
