One of the many projects that had surfaced onsuch short notice was the T-Shirt collection for Beit al Khair Society which was a pre-Sewa Day campaign wherein students from all Learning Bays were encouraged to donate their unwanted T-Shirts to benefit the less fortunate. Students from each year group had willingly taken up the responsibility to collect and record the progress of this project and, as is expected from such a supportive community, we had been able to collectmore than 4,000 T-Shirts in under two weeks’ time. The success of this campaign has only succeeded in proving to us that we, Westminsterians, might be from the four corners of the globe but when it comes to doing something to positively impact our society, we’ve got a heart that believes that each small change does in fact, make a significant impact.
We waited for years and years, and it is finally here! The Westminster astro turf field is now officially ready!
The presence of Mr.Adnan Hussain from the UAE national team and Al-Ahli club surely made the occasion even more special. The field is now ready and all PE classes are set to proceed on the turf.
A welcome assembly was held on the 12.09.2013 in the Multiplus. The assembly began with a Quran recitation, followed by the National Anthem. The assembly was to get to know each other. The teachers of Year 1 & 2 introduced themselves as well as all the subject teachers. Year 1 and 2 children had an exciting activity period in which all the students participated indifferent activities like word building, word finding, scrambled words, word puzzle and so on.
The year 4 had their spelling bee completion on the 24th of September. The literacydepartment conducted thecompetition and was held house wise. The winning team were the Alphas.
As always, the year starts with an impending hurricane of extracurricular activities and many opportunities to take the lead in various areas. The production of this student-run periodical being one of the very first, uniting us as the one community - the one family - that we are. Though it shall not be the only initiative of its kind.
Deadlines are being set. The brainstorming process is to be running at all times, and again, all students must be involved. Primary, secondary, boy or girl, every student must have an idea of what's happening every day in school, and every last one of us must absolutely play a role in whatever is happening in the school at all times. We are all a part of the Westminster school, we all matter.
