Basketball is a very important sport in our school, particularly for the girls, as is evident from their vigorous training every morning. But is all that hard work fruitful? Definitely.
Our under-16 girls basketball team won the school of cultural science's inter-school basketball tournament, bringing home the gold in all their glory.
Here's an insight about the tournament from Yasmin Ibrahim (10G2), the team's captain and one of the most active players on the court.

How long have you been on the team? I am the Team Captain and Point Guard. I’ve been playing for the school for the past 4 years and it’s been a beautiful journey so far.

How long have you guys been practicing?
We’ve been training ever since this academic year started, we train every morning. It’s very useful because the more we train the more we learn, and the more we can improve our weak points. Training helps us build up our skills, our stamina and our confidence.
What was the biggest challenge during the games?
Out of all the tournaments we went to this year, I would say that this tournament was the most aggressive one. The teams we played against were so aggressive that some of our players were being pushed to the ground and getting injured but despite all of those injuries we managed to get right up and continue the game.

What was the best moment?
Playing that final match. Knowing that there were only a few more minutes till the match ends and that we were closer to victory. The moment we heard the referee’s whistle letting us know that the game had ended and that we had won. And of course, I won’t forget the moment we received our trophy.
It is always the team’s spirit of unity, determination, faith, confidence and sportsmanship that are the major instruments to our victory. We aim to win in every game while keeping in mind that it is always a win or lose situation. Keeping our feet on the ground at all times…
What are the future plans of the team?As most of us will be graduating from school in a year or two from now, we would like to train new players, have try-outs and find new talents and share with new players what we’ve got.
In the meantime though, we'd like to participate in more tournaments so we can have a chance to showcase our talents and bring more prestige and glory to the school.
The girls also won our very own inter-school basketball tournament held last week!
Congratulations!
